China’s economy is expanding at an astounding rate – but its waistlines are too. The food of the streets tells the story of a culture torn between tradition and modernity, the customs of an ancient past competing with the convenience age of the new. What will survive and what will be lost? In a China which has gone within two generations from mass starvation to mass obesity, what does the future hold?

@potyunbe lol I know. Its cause of the cultural revolution according to my dad.
@jerrywu78 not exercising also helps
there are much less fat people in East than in West, those American Junk food lovers….And the most boring thing, is this a food television program? or a nutritious eating guide book?
fuck the west
@jerrywu78 They actually like fatty meats. They will often just eat the fat
I have no idea why people are hating on meat. Meat doesnt make you fat, its how you cook it that makes you fat. If you cut away all the fat of the meat, im sure it can be good for you.
the second part of the program was focused on obesity and cooking, there was no introduction of different dishes of china as they showed in Nairobi, Jerusalem and brick lane etc.
I’m Iranian and I would love to visit China and try the food. It looks delicious and very different from what I’m used to eat.
Honestly speaking, probably less than half of all the Chinese dishes would be acceptable to Health Standards (as it is with any traditional Cuisines around the world). A lot of good authentic food of any cuisine was made in hard times for both the poor people who labor a lot or the few rich folks who want to flaunt their wealth.
@limpeh666 I think that only applies to back in the day when food was short .
to traditional chinese, being fat means one has a prosperous life…
@guitarlover121618 Its not so much accusing the chinese of being obese, but rather point out that obesity in China is a problem just like anywhere else and that it isn’t immune from these problems.
Just because they are pointing out a flaw doesn’t mean we’re accusing China of everything. Your logic is like saying “Well, if he can rob an old lady on the street, I can too. Don’t call me out on it!”
there isn’t a whole lot to talk about since at first the government doesn’t allow these things, + he only went to beijing which doesn’t even cover 20% of all the street foods in china.
Calisthenics!
I like tooooo:)
I like this program.
Chinese cuisine ftw.
Whoever came up with the idea for this episode should be shot…
Why didn’t it stick to one topic?
Also, the name of the show is STREET FOOD. It is suppose to be unhealthy. You can’t go to a hot dog stand for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and expect not to gain weight…
why are you accusing the chinese of being obese? there are other countries that are obese, such as america
@redpanda416 i agree but i think the beggars in beijing are very agressive all i say is wo mei you qian!! wo mei you qian! lol….. they look at me like im crazy because im western but i speak mandarin
to to to….. haha
aha
nice
way to go off topic… from street food to why kids are fat…
omg i saw my home in the video!! i miss there sooo much ~
